IP and Data Services

Based upon Shaw Business Solution’s (SBS) private fiber IP transport network, Edgenet Broadband Data Solutions offers carrier class IP based services for companies requiring a secure reliable connection. Regardless of your company’s size, connectivity needs or speed requirements, we can tailor a cost effective solution and back it up with our 24x7 technical support.

We are proud to offer our customers the ability to select either dedicated or shared Internet access from our colocate. This service is based on customers locating their equipment at our facility. The services available include the following:

Virtual Private Network

Our systems are setup to provide routing for and pass through of VPN routes. We also offer hardware and software based VPN solutions. Both solutions logically separate the VPN traffic from the public traffic and transport the data through the network at priority to the public traffic. All data sent through the VPN tunnel is securely transmitted using IPSec. Using VPN we can support the following three solutions:

  • Intranet :For those companies having more than one location for their business, we offer the Intranet solutions for secure communications between the various locations.
  • Extranet: For those businesses that allow their customers and employees to connect to the Intranet from their own offices or homes, we support Extranet solutions in our IP services.
  • Remote Connectivity: For those customers that run ICA servers or Terminal services.

Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) Service

We offer secure connectivity between our customer’s locations to our data centers. This includes the following:

  • Numerous options for dedicated connections with speed ranging from 1.0 Mbps to 1.0 Gbps or more.
  • Security of transmitted data
  • Connectivity between your location to our data centers to access and transmit data for storage and retrieval
  • Connectivity between your office to our data center for connectivity to the backbone for accessing the Internet
  • Connectivity from your office to our data center to securely connect you to your other locations.
  • The connectivity is for fully duplex systems for two way communications or data transmission.

Internet

Our colocate facility is fiber connected through Telco Enterprise class switching gear to the backbone. Our data center has multiple strands of fiber optic with maximum fiber capacity of 190 Gbps. All traffic is routed through the fiber optic connections into the SBS Tier-1 OC192 private network of 625,000 fiber route kilometers on a fully diverse and redundant backbone. The colocate center also has wireless connectivity providing access into Bell Canada’s private network as back up to our primary fiber service.

Connectivity Speeds

Our Enterprise class hardware can be configured to provide whatever connectivity is required. In our shared cabinets, we can provide a minimum of 1.5 Mbps while dedicated cabinets are offered a minimum of 100 Mbps connection speeds. Copper connections are the main route provided to the cabinets, but fibre is available.

Monthly Data Transfer Allowance

Our shared connections provide extremely competitive pricing but the customer is limited to the amount of data transferred every month. Overage charges apply for transmitting data over the monthly allowance. Our dedicated connection are not metered and customers have the ability to move as much data as they wish through their connection. For example, a customer having 10 Mbps dedicated connection can transfer 3.3 Terra Bytes of data every month.

Peering Arrangements

The SBS network is approaching 1000 peering connections in North America, Europe and Asia. This network provides the fastest delivery of data. Reliability through our BGP routing you are assured of the fastest route possible for delivery.

IP Addresses

We run our own pool of static IP addressing provided by ARIN. The assignment of IP addresses is determined by the proven requirements of the requester.

Border Gateway Protocol (BGP):

We run our own BGP routing and can add your ASN to our BGP.
